San Francisco Weekend 2008

In honor of her cousin's casting as Tina in 'Tony and Tina's Wedding,' my roommate Casey and I went to San Fransisco for the weekend to see some dinner theater. Casey's cousin Mariah lives in the Noe Valley of SF, which is near both the Mission District and the Castro.

Here's Casey on the BART from SFO to meet Mariah in Union Square

Here are a couple of shots in and around Union Square

This isn't a very good photo, but you get the idea.

After bumming around in the city for a little while, we met up with Mariah, who rode with us to her house. We got some food and got ready to go over to the pier to watch the play, in which Mariah starred. I really didn't know what Tony & Tina was all about, and if I had, I'm sure I would have done a little drinking to get prepared. :) As most of you probably knew, it is dinner theater, and you interact with the cast and are kind of "part of the play." Because Casey is part of Mariah's family, there was even more pressure to interact. Luckily we brought a bottle of wine with us, under Mariah's recommendation.

Here's Casey and me with our "VIP" hats, leis, and shotglasses

After the play Casey and I were very tired from our long day and early morning flight, but we rally-ed up for a night on the town. Here's a picture some new friends we made.

It turned out that Mariah had to shoot a commercial for the rest of the time we were there, so Casey and I were on our own. On Saturday we spent most of the day walking around and exploring the areas around the Noe Valley. I took the following photos as we wandered around.

(there were a lot of beautiful cathedrals and churches)

I couldn't resist a photo of this gorgeous cherry blossom tree!

This is an apartment building near the Mission district that was covered in this graffiti. It was kind of Dr. Suess-esque. Mission street, as it turns out, is not the safest of places. It was actually really scary walking around there, even in broad daylight. Just a couple of blocks over things were fine. :)

After we got back from our day exploring, Mariah was back from her commercial shoot, so we went out for dinner at an Italian restaurant in Nob Hill. It was ok. Unfortunately, I didn't eat any exceptional food in SF this time. That night we were all tired from the night before, so we turned in early. On Sunday, Casey and I were in a taxi on our way to Golden Gate park to walk around, but as the cab driver took us through the Castro, we decided to just get out there and enjoy the beautiful day. After some window shopping, it was time to get back to head to the airport, so we booked it back to Noe Valley, which happened to be mostly up very very very steep San Franciscan hills. I got some nice picturesque shots while we stopped for water breaks.

After a mad dash to the airport, Casey and I were on our way home, to be welcomed home by a beautiful afternoon on Alki Beach....

Home, sweet home!
